start kindergarten or are 4 years 6 months by the start of school. This program offers an extra year of learning and development for a child both cognitively and socially. Educational learning is emphasized in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. Fundamental instruction includes math, science, art, drama and music, as well as motor skills training and personal and social development. The focus is less on play and more on learning. We try and maintain a balance between child-initiated and teacher-directed activities. Most teacher-directed activities are open-ended, allowing students to work at his or her own pace and, for the more able student, to extend their thinking and achievement. Problem solving and creativity are readily encouraged, and children are also invited to work independently as well as cooperatively with other classmates. |

first time in a school environment. Our primary goal is to provide developmentally appropriate activities and experiences which will foster language development, opportunities for parallel play and socialization skills. The curriculum is presented through thematic units and all our toddler activities are designed for smaller hands and shorter attention spans. Large and small motor activities are planned within a safe environment where children will learn how to interact and get along with each other. Children also learn to develop toilet training skills (according to parents’ instructions) and other self-help skills which are an important part of an early childhood program. Toddlers are very active. As soon as they get on their feet, they want to use their large muscles to walk, run, climb, throw, kick and be on the go all the time. Our experienced, licensed teachers will work on the development of large motor skills such as balancing, throwing, kicking and jumping. The happiness toddlers get from physical activities makes them feel good about themselves, and about their growing abilities. |
